Hey everybody! I’m really excited to make this announcement so I’m just going to get right to the point.
We’re having a story contest, and the two winners are going to have their stories produced by The Grey Rooms podcast.
If your attention span is as short as mine you can be happy to know that’s the gist of what this post is about. If you’re still interested (maybe even excited) keep reading!
Ah good, you’re still here.
Here’s the deal! We have seen how excited and positive the response has been over Falling and the trailers that we worked on. We are so grateful to you. We gave it some thought and decided that we want to give back a little. Now that people have an idea of what the episodes will sound like…wouldn’t it be exciting to offer people one final opportunity to be a part of this season’s podcast?
Let’s talk about winning…
The first winner’s story will be produced by The Grey Rooms podcast and will post on September 7th, 2018. Everyone will hear your story in preparation for our actual podcast. There will be a lot of hype. You will be immortalized in Grey Rooms history. Who knows…I might even be able to persuade Jason into sending you a t-shirt as well. Maybe if we all clap our hands really loud at this. What do you think?
The second winner’s story will be produced by The Grey Rooms podcast and will post during the first season as a Patron bonus. People that subscribe to us through Patreon get to hear some additional stories. These stories will be released publicly at a time prior to season two. If you’re worried that your friends and family might not get to hear your awesome story…don’t. Sooner or later all those episodes will be available to everyone. Maybe we can persuade Jason to send you a t-shirt as well.
So what do you think? Excited? Want to hear your story enhanced with the same kind of love and care that Jason gave Falling? Of course you do. And I can’t wait to read your story.
Let’s talk about guidelines…
The stories must obviously be horror. Genres don’t matter. If you want sci-fi horror, or gothic rainbow horror, or spaghetti western horror, or apple pie revenge horror go for it. What’s more important is that the protagonist must die. You can imply that they die at the end of the story or you can just kill them off in the narrative, but by the end of the story they must die.
The stories must be relatively short. Last time I looked at Falling, it was somewhere around 1188 words. I’m just going to be generous and say somewhere between 1500 and 2000 words. If you can freak us out in less…hey I’ll read. The thing is that we don’t want our promo episode to be long. Our main episodes will be around 45 minutes, but these are made to be short, sweet, and to the point.
We hadn’t really asked for this before, but now we are going to start asking that all our stories are written in 1st person, past tense. It seems a bit easier for the voice actors, and we want all the stories to have a similar flow (in other words we think one episode written in first and then the next in third is kind of weird).
If you’re wondering about the rights you will have for your story, and whether you can publish it elsewhere, that’s okay. All we want are the rights to use your story in our podcast.
The submission period for the contest –
Begins: June 1st, 2018
Ends: August 3rd, 2018
We’ll announce the two winners not long after.
We ask that if you have already contributed a story to our podcast that you do not participate in this contest. The object here is to invite more people into our family of horror writers, and to also have fun. That being said, EVERYONE will have an opportunity to submit stories in October for The Grey Rooms: Season 2.
